Trudy has announced that a Skills and Careers Fair will take place in Whitehaven this month.
Around 30 companies will be on hand at Whitehaven Civic Hall on Friday, April 28 (2pm to 6pm) to offer a guests a wealth of information and guidance on the range of careers that are available.
This will be the fourth skills fair Trudy has hosted in the constituency, in which businesses, training/apprenticeship providers and employment support services will demonstrate the opportunities on offer to young people, jobseekers and those looking to re-train.
Trudy said: “I’m hoping to build on the success of the previous Skills and Careers Fairs and look forward to welcoming everyone to Whitehaven Civic Hall on April 28.
“There are so many exciting and rewarding careers available in our area, and we’ll be showcasing a wide range of them, including nuclear and the supply chain, tourism, health, engineering, environmental and the armed forces.”
The event is being supported by DWP and Jobcentre Plus.
Judith Wilkinson, Partnership Manager, said: “DWP is delighted to support the Skills and Careers Fair hosted by Trudy Harrison MP. This is a fantastic example of businesses and training providers operating in the area coming together with the local community, to showcase the training and employment offers available to start, progress or renew someone’s career.”
The Skills and Careers Fair is also being supported by Cumbria Deaf Association, and a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter will be in attendance.
Caroline Howsley, Chief Executive Officer of Cumbria Deaf Association, said: “Careers events to promote employment pathways for people who are deaf or hard or hearing can be limited. Thanks to Trudy for recognising this challenge and wanting to ensure the best accessible opportunity for the deaf community to consider their career options.
“Cumbria Deaf Association will be in attendance, providing employers an opportunity to discuss support available through Access to Work. We will be on hand to talk about career options with people who are interested in learning sign language.”
