THE MP for Copeland has commended the work of Cleator Moor Towns Fund Board as the Government gives the green light for a £22-million-pound funding boost for the town.
Announced today by the Communities Secretary, Robert Jenrick, Cleator Moor is set to receive £22.5m as part of the £3.6billion Towns Fund after being chosen in 2019 as one of 100 towns nationally to be invited to develop proposals for Town Deals.
The funding will make way for a raft of new projects for the town, as developed by the Cleator Moor Towns Board, including renewing the town square and creating an attractive environment for under used units, enhanced sports and leisure provisions and development of a high-quality sustainable transport network.
Trudy, said: “This is testament to Cleator Moor’s community spirit and sporting heritage, enterprising businesses, strong nuclear sector and the support of Copeland Borough Council. Kayleigh Daniels has led her Town team well and Government clearly understands the town’s potential.
“This is probably the biggest cash injection of a generation into Cleator Moor and it will be transformational in its outcomes.”
Cleator Moor joins 26 towns in England so far to a share of over £610 million, aiming to boost local economies, create jobs and help communities build back better from the pandemic.
Communities Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said: “We are levelling up towns and cities across the country by building stronger and more resilient local economies, boosting prosperity and opportunity in our communities, and helping them build back better from the pandemic.
“Today I am announcing new town deals in 26 areas, backed by over £610 million investment from the Towns Fund. This will support locally led projects to transform disused buildings and public spaces, deliver new green transport and create new opportunities for people to develop new skills. This is a boost for communities and businesses across England.”
Today’s announcement is part of comprehensive action by the government to level up opportunity and prosperity across all areas of the country, including through the £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund, the £220 million Community Renewal Fund and the £830 million Future High Streets Fund.
