Nuclear contracting firms spoke to Copeland MP Trudy Harrison about their obligations to the industry, workforce and the community.
Trudy met with Seascale-based Cumbria Nuclear Solutions Ltd (CNSL) which forms part of Sellafield’s Decommissioning Delivery Partnership (DDP).
Made up of Shepley Engineers Ltd; James Fisher Nuclear; React Engineering; Jacobs Stobbarts; WYG and Westinghouse, CNSL is a well-established collaboration.
Discussions included how contractors supplying the nuclear industry had obligations towards social impact and how they can best meet the needs of the community.
Representatives and the MP also discussed the importance of investing in apprenticeships, giving people the opportunity of learning vital skills while they earn.
Trudy said: “Continuing the legacy of world class skills in our nuclear industry is so important and CNSL is an example of innovative companies working together to meet the requirements of large contracts awarded by Sellafield and Dounreay. The meeting provided yet another opportunity to be reminded of the world-class skills and safe working within the nuclear industry. Reaching one million safe working hours on the largest industrial site in the UK whilst tackling the most complex challenges is testament to the professionalism within CNSL and their highly skilled and experienced workforce.
“I am determined to secure a strong nuclear future for Copeland and the industry internationally, it is vital we recognise the part which nuclear will play in reaching net zero whilst providing huge socio-economic benefits to our community."
