A number of the county’s MPs met the Korean ambassador to the UK to seek reassurances over the future of the Moorside deal.
Five MPs, including Barrow and Furness’s John Woodcock and Trudy Harrison, the member for Copeland, and South Lakes MP Tim Farron joined together to hold talks with ambassador Enna Park.
There is uncertainty over the £15 billion Moorside nuclear power station development, based near Sellafield in the west of the county, with a deal for the site yet to be reached between Korean utility company KEPCO and Toshiba.
Mrs Harrison, who organised the meeting, said: “It was our pleasure to welcome the ambassador to Parliament to meet Cumbrian MPs.
“KEPCO remains interested in a Moorside partnership, and as a group of cross party MPs, sharing a commitment to both Cumbria and nuclear we are all keen to see further commitment.
“It was obvious the ambassador appreciated this collaborative way of working,.
“The purpose of our meeting was foremost to demonstrate our joint support for Moorside, to positively encourage Korean involvement but also to reiterate the Cumbrian capability across the whole nuclear sector from research and development, new missions, decommissioning and waste management."
