Trudy Harrison will be joining apprentices and businesses across the country in celebration of the 11th annual National Apprenticeship Week.
Between Monday 5th and Friday 9th March, Trudy will be meeting apprentices and trainees from businesses and organisations including Sellafield Ltd, BAE Systems and Cumbria Health on Call, to celebrate their successes and learn more about the apprenticeship programmes on offer.
Coordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, National Apprenticeship Week is a Government led campaign designed to celebrate apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
During the week employers and apprentices from across England will come together to celebrate the success of apprenticeships whilst encouraging even more people to choose apprenticeships as a pathway to a career and to boost business growth.
Mrs Harrison, said: “As an Apprenticeship Ambassador and Co-Chair of the Apprenticeship Delivery Board I will be championing the Government’s efforts to highlight the opportunities and benefits that apprenticeships can offer and in the future I would like to see every young person leaving school to view an apprenticeship or going to university in equal merit.”
The theme of National Apprenticeship Week 2018 is ‘Apprenticeships Work’ aimed to showcase how apprenticeships work for individuals, employers, local communities and the wider economy.
Mrs Harrison, added: “We must recognise apprenticeships as a ladder of opportunity to a brighter future and showing that they are available for all, whilst celebrating the benefits apprenticeships bring to employers and the impact apprentices can have on businesses and the wider economy.”
Government statistics reveal between 2016 and 2017 there were a total of 1040 apprenticeship starts in Copeland – increasing from just 340 in 2005.
National statistics also revealed that 54 per cent of apprenticeships starts were by women (262,820) and 46 per cent by men (228,520).
On Thursday, the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) will be holding an information session for students and their parents or guardians to find out directly about the Apprenticeships it offers.
The event will take place on Thursday 8th March, between 2.30pm and 7pm at the Energus Centre, Lillyhall.
The Government recently set out its ambition to increase the quality and quantity of apprenticeships through a transformational programme of change.
By delivering benefits for individuals, businesses and the economy, the Apprenticeship Reform Programme aims to address growing skills shortages by ensuring significant numbers of higher quality apprenticeships meet employers’ needs.
