Trudy Harrison has been given a demo of new mobile app aiming to promote Whitehaven.
‘Whitehaven Appsolutely’ is the innovative app designed by Keith and Trish McWhan who own Buzy Bee Software Services in Whitehaven.
The mobile app was built to help promote local businesses and charities as well as showcase Whitehaven’s beauty, heritage and culture to locals and visitors.
Keith said: “We have developed a new innovative mobile app with all the latest features to provide a 'hub' for Whitehaven where everything is in the one place and accessible by all, even when offline.
“It will include all the latest features including push notifications highlighting all latest offers, favourites options, so at a glance you can see your favourite restaurants, guided walks so you can see our picturesque and historical town, and people can customise the app so they are only informed about what they want to see.”
Trudy Harrison MP visited the couple at their home office to preview the newly designed app before its launch at the end of this month.
She said: “Mrs Harrison, said: “The app was developed with the couple’s desire to help local charitable organisations raise awareness of their services. It should also be really helpful for people new to our community.
“Keith and Trish's resilience really inspired me, as well as running Buzy Bee Software from their home in Whitehaven, Keith is the main carer for his wife, Trish, who has MS, Chron’s disease and Trigeminal Neuralgia. They are a truly motivational couple, working hard to create something special for Whitehaven.”
The app was born following the couple’s desire to help local charitable organisations raise awareness of their services and grew from there.
Keith added: “Trudy thought the app would be a great way to promote the town but she also wanted to give her support to people working from home in Copeland and to change attitudes by breaking down barriers towards disabled people and employment.
“My wife has a disability and I am her main care giver but this has not stopped us from running our own business from home and trying to make a difference in our local community.
“The app aims to provide a platform for local businesses and charities to connect to consumers using the latest technology as well as being an inexpensive way of advertising their products and services.
“Basic listings will be free to everyone with an upgraded listing, costing less than £1 a week. Events can be added free of charge. There will also be a 50 per cent discount for local charitable organisations so they can bring awareness about their valuable services.”
Until December 31 2017, those who register for an upgraded listing will only pay half price.
The app will be launched on 31st October. To register your business/organisation or to find out more information go to www.whitehavenappsolutely.co.uk or contact Keith on 01946 592682.
