Trudy Harrison has visited Bradbury House in Gosforth to hear about the care home’s latest development plans.
Trudy met with staff and residents at the care home in Wasdale Road to view the facilities, and hear more about the current redevelopment plans.
The ambitious plans include creating 18 one and two bedroom bungalows on land adjacent to Bradbury House, an extension of the main care home and a new community room offering various social activities.
Trudy Harrison, said: “I had a wonderful visit to Bradbury House this week – it was great to meet the immensely dedicated team of staff and learn all about their extensive development plans, which I’m sure will provide much needed extra space and support and help residents to remain as independent as possible.
“Speaking to staff and residents, it is clear that the care and facilities provided at Bradbury House stands at an exceptional level, recognising the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends. It was refreshing to hear the number of activities and outings residents can take part in and I commend the efforts of all members of staff and volunteers.”
Over the next five years, the Government is integrating and improving health and social care to protect people at every stage of their lives, while measures have been introduced to support councils to manage adult social care which will deliver more than £7 billion extra spending power to the system over the next three years.
Mrs Harrison, added: “The Chancellor's recent announcement of an additional £2 billion to councils in England over the next three years to spend on adult social care services is encouraging and I am pleased that £1 billion will be provided in 2017-18, to enabling immediate action. It is vital to ensure that people receive dignified care in old age.”
