Trudy has welcomed the announcement that two constituency arts and culture venues will receive a multi-million-pound funding boost.
Cumbria Theatre Trust, which operates Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake, and Rosehill Theatre, in Moresby, have been allocated funding for the next three years through the Government’s Levelling Up for Culture programme.
Cumbria Theatre Trust will receive £615,182 per year and Rosehill Theatre will receive £208,523 per year; both for three years.
The funding has been delivered by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, via Arts Council England, and 990 organisations will receive a share of £446m per year for three years. Priority has been given for areas, including Copeland, that have been designated a Levelling Up for Culture area, with £130m of the funding earmarked annually for these priority constituencies.
Trudy said: “The funding being delivered by the Conservative Government will pay dividends across Copeland, boosting our local economy, creating jobs in the area, and bringing our communities closer together.
“We are widening access to arts and culture, so that everyone can enjoy the fantastic arts and culture on offer here in our community and the benefits that investment brings.”
Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan said: “Thanks to this new government funding package, spreading more money to more communities than ever before, people living in areas from Wolverhampton to Wigan and Crawley to Chesterfield will now get to benefit from the deep economic and social rewards culture can bring.
“We continue to support our icons such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Shakespeare Company, but this announcement will see organisations in places all too often overlooked get the support they need to transform access to the arts for everyone – no matter where they live.”
