Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has urged the Government’s Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark, to move forward with West Cumbria Mining’s Woodhouse Colliery in Whitehaven.
In Parliament this afternoon, during a debate on British Steel, Mrs Harrison said: “Without coking coal there would be no steel industry and therefore of vital importance is the privately-funded multi-million pound Woodhouse Colliery in my Copeland constituency, which is being developed by West Cumbria Mining, which will have economical, social and environmental improvements for our area and the country.”
The mining plans have been ‘called in’ by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron but Mrs Harrison has argued that there is a strong case for UK coking coal – a vital ingredient in the steel-making process.
