Trudy has experienced a school motto of “Be Brave, Be Bright & Be You” in action during a visit to Monkwray.
Trudy met with three groups of pupils during her morning at the Whitehaven junior school; the Brilliant Cumbria Ambassadors, the Nurture Group and the School Council. Each group outlined their roles and ideas to Trudy, before holding question-and-answer sessions.
The Brilliant Cumbria Ambassadors focus on celebrating success in the school community, which includes writing positive notices to one another on a message board and holding a ‘dazzling’ assembly each Friday. The Nurture Group members take part in art, bakery and other activities to boost their teamwork and confidence, while the newly-elected School Council discussed their election process and how they intend to work with their classmates and teachers to effect positive change.
Trudy said: “It was a pleasure to visit Monkwray and meet the three groups of pupils who are so passionate about their school and their classmates.
“The various initiatives within the school to celebrate success and to promote positivity and wellbeing are all wonderful to see, and I’d like to thank the Headteacher and pupils for such a warm welcome.”
Headteacher Pamela Telford said: “We’d like to say thank you to Trudy for visiting our school, where she was able to see a small part of the work we do to ensure the children receive a well-rounded education, both academically and emotionally.
“In her discussions with all groups, Trudy was very open and honest with some very probing questions from the children.
“If restrictions hadn’t been in place, it would have been lovely for her to meet the whole school - both pupils and staff - so that she could see how we all work together to make sure that the children who come to Monkwray can "Be Brave, Be Bright & Be You" and can grow up to be members of a very supportive and welcoming community - now and in the future.”
