Trudy is helping to celebrate the vital role farmers play in the community by inviting nominations for a prestigious award.
Trudy is taking part in the National Farmers’ Union’s Community Farming Hero Awards, in which she is invited to nominate a farmer from Copeland who has gone above and beyond for their community.
The recipient will receive the constituency’s Hero Award and then go forward to compete for the regional title alongside recipients from across the area.
Trudy said: “I am proud to be joining the NFU to celebrate our farming community by inviting nominations for this new award.
“Farmers are the backbone of our rural communities – and have been for generations - and nobody knows their industry and their local area more than farmers do.
“The NFU are particularly looking for a farmer who has supported their community during challenges, fundraised for charities , or helped people enjoy the farmed landscape. I look forward to hearing more about our Farming Heroes.”
Minette Batters, NFU President, added: “As well as growing high quality, healthy food, British farmers and growers are often pillars of their communities.
“Whether it’s maintaining the landscapes we love to visit, helping neighbours in times of extreme weather or fundraising for local charities.
“NFU members often go the extra mile, and we would like to recognise and celebrate their invaluable contributions.”
Trudy is inviting suggestions for her nomination by Friday, August 19, and will make her selection the following week. The winners will be celebrated at this year’s Back British Farming Day event in Parliament on September 14.
