The MP for Copeland is encouraging her community to join a UK-wide conversation about democracy, people power and making change happen, as part of Parliament Week 2020.
Celebrating its tenth year, UK Parliament Week, is an annual festival taking place from 1-7 November, that engages people from across the UK with their UK Parliament, exploring what it means to them and empowering them to get involved.
Trudy Harrison MP will be marking this year’s campaign by hosting a Q&A session with members of the 1st Beckermet Brownies, who have signed up to learn more about democracy, as well as the day to day running of Parliament and life as an MP.
Trudy, said: "Meeting with schools and constituents to highlight the daily activities across the Houses of Parliament, the very heart of our country’s democracy, has always been a great honour and privilege in my role as Copeland's MP. However, due to the efforts to tackle Covid-19, this has sadly not been possible for quite some time. That's why I am pleased to be supporting UK Parliament Week 2020, which aims to engage people from across the UK with their UK Parliament.
"I will be getting involved by speaking with students from across Copeland to hear about what democracy means for them as well as learning more about how they like would like to make a difference. I would like to thank the UK Parliament Week team who have worked incredibly hard to ensure this year’s festival goes ahead, despite these extremely challenging circumstances.”
Last year, over 1.2 million people took part in UK Parliament week in every nation and region of the UK, alongside countries all over the world.
David Clark, Head of Education and Engagement at UK Parliament, said: “There are many exciting activities taking place for this year’s UK Parliament Week, including those happening in Copeland. Organisations, local community groups and schools across Copeland have a chance to get empowered and have their say on issues they care about the most.”
Those who sign up for UK Parliament Week will be sent a free kit packed with resources, including a booklet, bunting, a ballot box, a poster, stickers and more, which can be tailored for different organisations.
