Growing numbers of local people are saying they’ll use their vote to say “NO” to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his plans which threaten jobs in Copeland.
“It’s no surprise so many people have made this pledge” said local by-election candidate Trudy Harrison. Almost all of Trudy’s family work in the nuclear industry - her uncle, her aunt and her seven cousins. “I know just how important it is to jobs and livelihoods for thousands of people in Copeland and rural Cumbria, not just those who work at Sellafield.”
Under Jeremy Corbyn, Labour have repeatedly failed to back our local nuclear industry. Like many locals, Trudy knows that means voting Labour is a big risk this time. “Labour have ignored and forgotten our community for too long. Now they’re a threat to families and local firms too.”
Labour’s campaign in Copeland is being paid for by an anti-nuclear company that wants to scrap planned jobs at Moorside.
“All my friends and the local people I know tell me they don’t think Labour get Cumbria anymore. Labour don’t understand why Cumbria voted to the leave the EU. Labour don’t understand why we back the Prime Minister’s plan to take control of the number of people who come here from the European Union. Labour want to ignore and forget how we voted in the referendum last June and pretend it never happened. And now Labour don’t get how important the energy industry is to this area.
“It’s not just Jeremy Corbyn. Labour don’t get Cumbria anymore.”
