A discussion surrounding the future of Moorside brought together a delegation of key nuclear stakeholders at a reception in Parliament this week.
Hosted by Trudy Harrison MP, the event, titled: ‘What next for Moorside and the UK Nuclear Industry’ was a chance for trade unions, stakeholders, MPs and community figures to consider the effects the decision to wind up NuGen has had on the local community and the UK’s nuclear supply chain.
The Copeland MP and TUSNE, Trade Union for Safe Nuclear Energy who sponsored the event, welcomed around 50 guests from three unions, Prospect, GMB and Unite from around the UK.
Guests heard views of trade unionists as well as updates from nuclear new build developers, as well as an overview of the various finance options available for future new nuclear projects.
Following the decision to wind up the company behind Moorside, Mrs Harrison launched the Moorside Strategic Partnership in Copeland bringing together key industry figures and Government officials to discuss ways forward.
The next session will take place in June.
Mrs Harrison continues to press the Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy to ‘step in’ and ‘recognise the overwhelming need for Moorside’.
